Frequently asked questions

General
Do I need to know how to fight?

No… but it helps 😉 The retreats are designed for all levels. You might be competing regularly, or you might have never thrown a punch before. Either way, you’ll be looked after.

What kind of retreat is this?

It’s a travel and experience-led trip with training built in. It’s not a hardcore fight camp, but it’s also not just a standard holiday. You’ll train, explore, and spend time with a good group, without it feeling forced or over-structured.

Is everything mandatory?

No. Everything is optional. We encourage you to get involved, but you’re free to do your own thing if you want to.

Is this suitable for solo travellers?

Yes. Most people come solo, and it’s easy to meet people from day one. If you’re coming with a friend or partner, you’ll fit in just as easily.

What happens if I’m nervous about coming alone?

Completely normal. Most people feel that before they come. It’s a good kind of nervous. You’re doing something new, and that’s usually where the best experiences come from. You won’t feel out of place once you’re here.

What happens after I book?

You’ll get a confirmation first, then an onboarding form. After that, you’ll be added to a WhatsApp group with everyone else and the host, so you can ask questions and start getting to know people before the trip.

Do you help people connect before the retreat?

Yes, mainly through the WhatsApp group. You’ll be added before the trip, so you can ask questions and start getting to know people early. It usually gets going pretty quickly.

What’s the typical daily schedule like?

Most days start early with training, followed by breakfast. Late mornings and early afternoons are usually free unless there’s an excursion. Some days have extra sessions or activities, some are more relaxed. Evenings are flexible. There are usually optional plans, but you can always do your own thing.

Can I work remotely during the retreat?

Yes. The WiFi is strong enough if you need to stay connected. Realistically though, you probably won’t want to be working once you’re there. (Please check with the specific retreat to confirm WiFi suitability. For Bali, the WiFi at the accommodation and Soma Fight Club is more than enough for video calls.)

Can couples join?

Yes, of course. Just let us know before you book if you’re coming as a couple, as we may need to adjust the room setup and pricing.

What kind of people usually attend?

People who are open, social, and up for something a bit different. Most are coming solo, looking to travel, meet new people, and experience somewhere properly, without just doing a standard holiday.

What makes this different from other retreats?

It’s more about the experience and the people than just the schedule. You’re not just turning up and following a plan. You’re actually part of a group for the week, and that’s what makes it different. It feels more natural.

How does payment work?

You can either pay in full or secure your place with a deposit and pay the rest later. Payments are handled through Stripe, so it’s all secure and straightforward.

What if I can’t attend anymore?

Plans change, it happens. If you cancel more than 60 days before the retreat, your deposit is fully refundable. Between 30 and 60 days, 50% is refundable. Less than 30 days, payments are non-refundable. This applies to both deposits and full payments. You can always transfer your spot to someone else. If you’re unsure, just message us and we’ll see what we can do.

Do I need any travel vaccinations?

Best to check with your GP or a travel nurse before you go. Requirements vary depending on the destination and your personal situation. It is not something to guess or leave until the last minute. Get proper advice, get sorted, then you can just enjoy the trip.

What happens in an emergency?

We will provide key local information, including the nearest hospital and relevant emergency contacts, as part of your pre-trip information pack. Our team will also be available on the ground to support where needed.

Will there be first aid available?

Yes, basic first aid support will be available during group activities. However, you should bring any personal medication or specific medical supplies you may need.

Bali
What airport should I fly into?

Denpasar International Airport (DPS). There are plenty of ways to get to Bali, but this is the most convenient for the retreat. We keep it easy for you to get to the hotel, check in, and settle properly. The hard work starts after the welcome dinner.

Are airport transfers included?

Yes, pickup is included. Just send your flight details in advance. Even if you arrive a couple of days early, you’re still covered. We’ll get you from the airport to the hotel.

Is airport drop-off included?

No, drop-off isn’t included. But it’s really easy to sort using local taxi apps, and we’ll show you how to use them. You’ll be fine.

Where will we be staying?

Private boutique accommodation in Canggu, just a short scooter ride from Soma Fight Club and the beach. You’ll be surrounded by great cafés, good food spots, and everything you need nearby. The hotel itself has a beautiful pool overlooking rice fields, so you’ve got space to relax and switch off when you’re not training.

Are rooms private?

Yes, rooms are private by default. If you’d rather share and have someone in mind, just message us before booking and we’ll sort everything and adjust the price for you.

How far is the gym?

About 5 minutes away by scooter. If you’re feeling brave enough to drive yourself, make sure you’ve got a helmet. The police do check.

Is transport between accommodation and the gym included?

No, local transport like scooters or taxis isn’t included. But it’s very cheap and easy to get around using apps like Gojek or Grab. And don’t forget to tip your driver, they’ll look after you.

How often do we train?

There are 8 structured sessions across the week, all designed specifically for the group. You’ll also have access to additional classes at Soma if you want more. And don’t worry if you miss a session or two, just do your best, this isn’t the Olympics.

Do I need to bring equipment?

If you’ve got your own gear, bring it. If not, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. For sparring (which is completely optional), we recommend 16oz gloves for men and 14oz for women. Shin guards are used for Muay Thai drilling, and you can bring smaller gloves for pad work and other sessions. If you’ve got a mouthguard, groin guard, or hand wraps, bring them. If not, just let us know in advance and we’ll sort everything for you. There’s also a gym shop if you fancy picking up some new gear while you’re out here.

What activities are included?

We’ve got a mix of training, exploring, and social activities across the week. This includes an Ubud day trip (quad biking, rice terraces, waterfall, and a cooking class), Uluwatu day (beach, cultural park, and sunset), and a Tanah Lot sunset trip. There are also smaller social bits throughout the week, plus a final session and closing to wrap things up properly. And yes, there’s a few fun extras along the way if you’re up for it.

Are meals included?

Some are. Breakfast most days, welcome dinner, farewell dinner, Ubud lunch, and cooking class dinner. The rest are optional.

Is alcohol part of the trip?

It’s optional. Not really the focus, especially with early starts… but if you want a drink, I’m not stopping you. Just don’t complain at 7am.

Do I need a visa?

Most people will need a Visa on Arrival for Indonesia. As of 2nd April, it’s IDR 500,000 (roughly £25 / $30 USD) and you can sort it online beforehand to skip the queues when you land. Just make sure you check the latest requirements for your passport before travelling, as rules can change. If you’re unsure about anything, just drop us a message and we’ll help where we can.

Is there a tourist tax?

Yes, there’s a small tourist levy for Bali. As of 2 April 2026, it’s about 150,000 IDR (roughly £8 / $10 USD) and it’s a one-time payment per trip. You can pay it online before you arrive to avoid any hassle at the airport.

What should I pack?

Activewear (a lot of it), swimwear, running shoes, flip-flops, and something comfortable for evenings. If you’ve got boxing or Muay Thai gear, bring it (gloves, wraps, shin guards, mouthguard). If not, don’t worry, we’ll sort you out. Also bring sun cream, sunglasses, a reusable water bottle, and a quick-dry towel. A light rain jacket is worth having too. You don’t need to overpack, there are great local laundry services nearby that usually take 24–48 hours and are very affordable, so you can easily wash things during the week (especially if you’re staying longer). And if you’re planning your Eat Pray Love phase… bring a journal.

Is one week in Bali worth it? It feels like a long way for not much time.

Honestly, fair question. If you’re flying that far, you don’t want to feel rushed. Here’s how to think about it. This isn’t just a one-week holiday. It’s your anchor point. The retreat gives you: • A ready-made plan when you land • A solid group to connect with instantly • A proper introduction to Bali, not the tourist version • Structure, training, and experiences without you having to figure everything out From there, you build around it. My recommendation? • Come 1–2 days early to shake off the travel • Stay as long as you can after Use the retreat as your base, then: • Explore more of Bali • Travel to nearby islands like Nusa Penida or Lombok • Or even continue into Southeast Asia One week with us will give you a real taste of Bali. But Bali isn’t a one-week place. It’s a “you’ll wish you booked longer” place. Also, logistically, it just makes life easier. Instead of landing in a new country trying to figure everything out from scratch, you: • Arrive into a plan • Learn how things work locally • Build confidence moving around • Meet people you can actually continue travelling with By the time the retreat ends, you’re not a tourist anymore. You know the rhythm. So no, you’re not travelling all that way just for a week. You’re using the week to kickstart something bigger.
